YEREVAN. – Armenia’s intention to join the Customs Union will not affect settlement of Karabakh conflict, deputy director of Caucasus Institute Sergey Minasyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He noted that Russia would feel more obliged in terms of so-called security guarantees granted to Armenia and in fact through Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh.

“This will further help reduce likelihood of hostilities by Azerbaijan,” he said.

Following the talks that were held on September 3 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union.
