YEREVAN. – Armenia-Turkey protocols will either become basis for new talks or will be thrown down, turkologist Ruben Melkonyan said.

“International community condemned Turkey’s conduct on protocols,” he said, recalling that Turkey in fact fell short of commitments to the international community, thus acquiring negative image.

The entire reconciliation process showed that the Armenian side’s steps were justified and Turkey was not  responsible for its moves, Melkonyan told reporters on Monday.

“I think Armenia-Turkey protocols will move forward once. And if the talks ever begin, the protocols can serve as a starting point,” he emphasized.

In October 2009 Armenia and Turkey signed protocols in Zurich to normalize diplomatic relations between the states. The documents had to be ratified in both countries’ parliaments. However, in 2010 the Armenian president suspended the process due to Turkey’s non-constructive stance.
