YEREVAN. – The half of Syrian Armenians residing in Armenia are young people of which 1,000 are schoolchildren and 350 are students, Diaspora Minister said.

Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan on Wednesday answered the questions of lawmakers referring to the problems of the Syrian Armenians.

The Armenian government has been carrying out programs to regulate the work carried out with Syrian Armenians for a year and a half.

“Everything is being done to ensure that Syrian Armenians would not be faced with problems. It is obvious that our Syrian compatriots are happy with the work we have done. In addition, the Council of Europe and the EU praised Armenia’s work in this direction,” she said.

Hakobyan also noted that the number of Syrian Armenians students is increasing year by year.

“This year the Armenian charitable organizations, together with the government, allocated funds to cover tuition of 350 Syrian Armenians. There are no Syrian Armenians who have not received education in universities because of not paying the fee,” the Minister assured.
