YEREVAN. – Cultural ties between Armenia and Japan have significantly intensified over the past few years, representatives of the Armenian Culture Ministry said.

Svetlana Sahakyan, head of the external office at the Ministry of Culture, spoke about Armenia-Japan cultural ties during the Friday press conference dedicated to the third Japanese film festival.

The festival is being held at the initiative of Hikari center, the Ministry of Culture and other partners.

The ministry official said cooperation in the cultural sphere has received additional impetus with the opening of the Armenian Embassy in Japan. It covers joint projects, for example, in terms of introducing the Japanese music and calligraphy to the Armenian audience.

On the other hand, the sides take more active steps to promote Armenian culture in Japan. Thanks to the efforts of the Armenian embassy, the concerts marking the anniversary of Aram Khachaturian were held in Japan.

Speaking about the projects, Svetlana Sahakyan said a number of projects are being discussed. For example it can be exhibitions, exchange of musical groups, and perhaps some projects can be implemented within the framework of the events on the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
