YEREVAN. – Electricity supply was interrupted, on Saturday at 10:25am, in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan and in several regions.

According to preliminary data, there has been a system failure, and work is underway to completely restore electricity.

Power is already back in several Yerevan districts and in some regions of Armenia.

Information was also received that a number Yerevan subway cars had stopped operating. As of 11:17am, however, the stranded commuters were safely evacuated from the respective subway cars.  

At around 11:20am, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Levon Shahverdyan was contacted, and he informed that the power outage was due to an exertion in the relay protection system (RPS).

Work is underway to determine the causes for the RPS exertion.  

The subway system resumed operation at 12:07pm.
