The price of natural gas will go down in Armenia as a result of the sale of the 20 percent of the ArmRusGazprom company.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia National Assembly (RPA NA) Faction leader Galust Sahakyan stated the aforesaid Tuesday at a briefing with reporters at the NA.

Sahakyan reflected on the sale of the remaining 20 percent of ArmRusGazprom’s shares—which belonged to the Armenian government—to Russian energy giant Gazprom Company.

“I believe it would be logical that the gas prices will drop. It is natural, it is beneficial to us from the political point of view. The consumers [of Armenia] will receive gas with the same price as the Russian people,” Sahakyan stated.

To the query as to whether after this deal there would no longer be a need to increase the public transport fare in capital city Yerevan, the RPA MP responded that the fare hike is not dependant on the price of natural gas alone, but also on the prices of the auto spare parts.

“The document [on the sale of the abovementioned shares] has just been signed, and this will be followed by discussions,” Galust Sahakyan concluded.
