Following the infamous judgment by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), Turkish politician Dogu Perincek, who denies the Armenian Genocide, issued a statement claiming that the Armenian issue no longer exists for Turkey and it is resolved.

In his statement, which was published in Aydinlik newspaper of Turkey, Perincek noted that once being resolved in the judicial system, the only thing that remains is to apply this solution.

“When I wanted to petition to the ECtHR, the Turkish authorities and the leading opposition members were convincing [me] not to take that step so as not to create additional problems for Turkey. But we pledged to our nation that we will resolve the Armenian issue,” Perincek said in the statement.

He also stressed that the Armenian issue is resolved by way of right strategy, policy and struggle, and by the strength of the Turkish nation.

The ECtHR recently ruled in favor of Dogu Perincek’s lawsuit that was filed against Switzerland. The said judgment by European Court of Human Rights was made on the grounds of freedom of speech. In 2008, a Swiss court had convicted Perincek for denying the Armenian Genocide. Dogu Perincek is Chairman of the socialist Workers’ Party of Turkey. In addition, he heads the Talat Pasha organization, which actively fights against the Armenian Genocide’s recognition in Europe.
