YEREVAN. – Armenian first president’s speech is aimed at rather splitting the society instead of consolidating it, secretary of Heritage party board Stepan Safaryan said.

Commenting for Armenian News-NEWS.am on the statement by ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan, opposition member said it was strange that no word about non-constitutionality of Armenia-Russia agreements was mentioned.

“It was a statement of offended political leader. I was surprised by his strictly Soviet comments on loss of Armenia’s statehood. I am not sharing his views. I do not agree that the struggle against Kremlin’s policy is manifestation of anti-Russian sentiments,” Safaryan said.

Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s statement was an attempt to please Russia, he said, adding there is an impression that ANC leader had an aim to split the movement of European integration supporters.
