YEREVAN. – CIS is the largest trade and economic partner for Ukraine, said Ukrainian government commissioner for cooperation with the Russian Federation and CIS countries.

Valeriy Muntyan said the country attaches great importance to CIS chairmanship in 2014.

“Ukraine’s foreign policy priority is strengthening of good neighborly relations with CIS member states. This creates foreign policy prerequisites to preserve positive dynamics and form an atmosphere for political association and economic integration between CIS and EU,” Muntyan said during a space bridge between Moscow, Kyiv, Chisinau, Yerevan and Astana.

In terms of trade and economic relations, Ukraine’s priority is implementation of the provisions of free trade agreement with preserving principles and norms of WTO. Muntyan underscored necessity of intensifying cooperation with EU, as the Union is the second largest and important partner.

“We plan to prepare and sign two draft agreements. The first on free trade zone in the CIS that is very important for Ukraine, because we will have to diversify sources of energy supply, and Russia will give us energy transit through its pipeline system,” he said.

The second is agreement on a new treaty on free trade in services.
