YEREVAN. – Georgia’s sovereign right is to choose the security system that will fully comply with the national interests, Armenian president said in an interview with Czech “Lidové noviny” newspaper.

President Sargsyan hopes Georgia would be able to combine NATO aspirations and relations with neighboring states, including the countries playing a key role in regional security.

He recalled that Armenia is successfully developing partner relations with NATO: individual partnership action plan, operations in Kosovo and Afghanistan.

“Despite this, we have never noticed that other NATO members pointed at the fact that Turkey’s actions cause significant harm to the partner country. It is ironic that we are contributing to the security of the North Atlantic Alliance, and thus our security is directly damaged by policy of a NATO member state,” Sargsyan said.

Speaking about Abkhazia and South Ossetia, President noted that Armenia had been interested in stability and cooperation in the region.

“During the August 2008 events we appeared in a very difficult situation. Important communication linking Armenia to the otter world has been disrupted. We had partner relations and obligations to Russia and at the same time good neighborly relations with Georgia. There are many Armenians living in Georgia, Russia and Abkhazia, and they appeared on different sides. I am confident such problems cannot be solved by force. This will lead to big losses and tragedies,” he said.
