Mayor of Kyiv Vladimir Makeenko decided to quit the Party of Regions amid clashes in the Ukrainian capital that become more violent.

The statement spread by Makeenko's press service said he decided to shoulder personal responsibility, and no power is worth human victims.

Makeenko said he would fulfill his duty as a chairperson of the Kiev city state administration for as long as Ukrainian people trust him.

"My ulitmate goal is to preserve lives of the Ukrainians," he emphasized.
