YEREVAN. – Opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) bloc National Assembly (NA) Faction Head Levon Zurabyan believes that the Ukrainian EuroMaidan is very similar to the demonstrations at Liberty Square in capital city Yerevan and to the 1988 movement in Armenia.

“It can be said that the Armenians, and not the Ukrainians, have created the Maidan. The [19]88 movement was something like the Maidan,” Zurabyan said in response to Armenian News-NEWS.am’s query on whether or not the Maidan could repeat in Armenia.

“You ask me: Is it possible to achieve power from Liberty Square? I reply yes, it is possible,” he added.
To our question as to what conditions are needed to have a Maidan in Armenia, the ANC NA Faction leader responded as follows:

“A people ready for determined, constant battle is needed. We truly will see on [Saturday,] March 1 [when the ANC will stage a rally] whether or not the people are ready for such a consistent struggle,” Levon Zurabyan noted.
