Belarus would like to have closer relations with the European Union (EU), but it does not plan on breaking off relations with Russia.

Belarus FM Vladimir Makei stated the aforesaid adding that his country wants “normal relations” with Europe.
Makei noted that Belarus stands ready to develop economic, trade, and humanitarian relations with the EU, and to contribute to the ensuring of European security, Gazeta.ru reports.

“[But] the EU likewise needs to look after its image in the eyes of the Belarusian people,” Vladimir Makei told BNS.
