YEREVAN. – A new direction is pointed out, in relations with the European Union (EU), that it is possible to separately have a large political agreement between Armenia and the EU, and we are working with our European partners in this direction.

Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan told the abovementioned to the RFE/RL Armenian service.

“It is extremely important that all of our European friends very well understand Armenia’s position, the justification, the arguments of Armenia’s decisions, and they share all that with us,” Sargsyan said.

To the query as whether or not this is a step back following Armenia’s virtually four-year EU Association Agreement talks, the PM responded:

“No, because the new agreement takes into account the already recorded successes as a result of the implementation of previous agreements, and those programs where we already have created serious grounds and institutions under this technical and financial assistance.

“Based on this, a new strategy is being developed [on] how to broaden and deepen our relations with the European Union, and we have a full mutual understanding there.”
