ARF Dashnaktsutyun Bureau Armenian Cause Central Council condemned the recent attacks from Turkey on Syria’s predominantly Armenian-populated town of Kessab.

“These brutal and unprovoked attacks are the latest example of the violence which neighboring Turkey encourages.

“We call upon all states, which are influential in the Syrian conflict, to use all their resources to put an end to these attacks on the peaceful population of Kessab, and allow them to securely and safely return to their homes.

“This is the third time in last one hundred years that the Armenians are forced to leave Kessab. And Turkey is either the attacker, or the supporter of the attackers, in all three cases.

“It is essential that the international community restrain Turkey so that it stop its anti-Armenian actions, and in general, its inimical policy against Armenia and the Armenians,” the ARF’s statement specifically reads.

As reported earlier, in the early morning on March 21, armed militants from the Jabhat al-Nusra  terrorist group infiltrated into northern Syria’s Latakia Governorate, which is predominantly inhabited by Armenians and Alawites. At present, there is a fierce fight between the Syrian government army and the militants. Numerous displaced Kessab Armenians are currently sheltered in Latakia, Syria. On Sunday, Turkey provided direct assistance to the terrorists by downing a Syrian military plane. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad promised Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church to do everything possible to protect the Armenians in Kessab.
