YEREVAN. – The sugar produced in Armenia is cheaper than the imported sugar in terms of cost price.

Artak Shaboyan, Chairman of the Armenian State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (ASCPEC), told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

As per Shaboyan, ASCPEC reached such a conclusion as a result of yet another study.

He stated that Armenia primarily imports sugarcane, which is reprocessed in the country, instead of actual sugar.

“We decided to check which is more beneficial: local production, or import. Our studies show that the first is lower in terms of cost value,” Shaboyan said.
