YEREVAN. –  The President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said freezing of normalization process with Turkey could be predicted.

He recalled that Armenia launched reconciliation process in order to raise regional security and cooperation to a new level.

“If someone thought we did not realize the difficulties we could face, he appeared to be wrong,” president said during consultations at the Defense Ministry on Friday.

President Sargsyan emphasized that Turkish side tried to put forward preconditions and to give a certain assessment of the ongoing processes and even of certain points of the document, and “this is the reason why the processes appeared in a deadlock”.

The Armenian leader said the results were not a surprise, and “the partners having good intentions and providing their support to the process were finally convinced that not the Armenian side is to blame for lack of Armenia-Turkеy relations”.

By signing the protocols, a new tradition of public debates was created in the country, the President noted. The process showed that it is possible to hold a dialogue with different layers of the society even on complicated issues.

Serzh Sargsyan believes no one can claim that the protocols damaged the process of finding peaceful solution to Karabakh conflict.
