Several Russian film festivals are forced to cut down their programs due to a law amendment that came into force on July 1.

Pursuant to the amendment, profanities will be prohibited in works of art and public speeches in Russia, reported the Izvestia daily of the country.

“Message to Man” international festival press attaché Dmitry Gubin noted that as a result of this amendment in the law, the Russian film festivals will face the risk of cancelation.

The Russian Ministry of Culture, however, stated that it will make amendments in the controversial law so that festival screenings will be permitted without a leasing license.

Nonetheless, a long time will pass before these amendments’ entry into force, and this will be enough for the cancelation of the summer festivals in Russia.
