YEREVAN. – Armenia's former presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan plans to continue hunger strike until resignation of Serzh Sargsyan, he told reporters on Tuesday.

Hayrikyan, head of the National Self-Determination Union, said his supporters are opposing the measure, as it has “lost its value”, but the opposition leader is convinced that Armenian leadership will hardly stay indifferent to his initiative.

However, despite being confident in leadership's response, Hayrikyan said he had not received a reply to his letter addressed to the authorities.

“Serzh Sargsyan must respond to my letter. It is his duty under law,” he added. The opposition leader plans to start a hunger strike on September 8 near president's residence.

Earlier he handed over a letter calling for immediate resignation of President Sargsyan.
