YEREVAN. – Armenia-based Caucasus Institute Director, political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan is not absolutely sure that Armenia will join the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) on October 10.

Iskandaryan himself noted the aforesaid at a press conference on Tuesday.

In his view, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s statement, according to which his country may leave EaEU in case of a security threat for Kazakhstan, should not be perceived detached from the entire logic of Russia-Kazakhstan correlations.

“We started to pay attention [to it] when it came to refer to Armenia. Belarus, Russia, and Kazakhstan have their logic of correlations within the Customs Union [CU]. [And] Armenia is one of the pretexts for the disagreements existing between these countries,” the analyst noted.

As per Iskandaryan, CU was established having Ukraine as the target.

“Ukraine was the center, rather than Armenia. [But] I’m not quite positive towards this union in the sense that, considering the Ukrainian crisis, I don’t think it will be possible to create a well-functioning organization,” Alexander Iskandaryan maintained.

Nazarbayev had announced that Armenia’s and Kyrgyzstan’s EaEU accession matters will be discussed at the meeting of the EaEU member states (Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus), which will be held on October 10 in Belarusian capital city Minsk.
