YEREVAN. – Armenia is unable to find its place in the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU).

Analyst Haykazun Alvrtsyan stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Friday, as he reflected on the country’s EaEU integration process.

In his words, the problem is that Armenia’s wish and political will play a secondary role.

“It turned out that joining the EaEU is not that easy. The [EaEU] participating countries are discussing the matter of Armenia’s accession to this day,” the analyst noted.

He added that the Karabakh issue and the inexplicit understanding that Armenia will play the role of Russia’s ally in this organization are the main obstacles standing before Armenia’s EaEU integration.

As per Alvrtsyan, realizing this all too well, Kazakhstan and Belarus are delaying this integration process in an attempt to wrest as many unilateral concessions as possible from Armenia.

“As for the privileges which are planned to be provided to [official] Yerevan, they either will be removed or be reduced significantly. All this is aimed at seeing Armenia as a weak player within the organization,” Haykazun Alvrtsyan concluded.

Armenia’s EaEU accession agreement is expected to be signed at the meeting of the leaders of the EaEU member states (Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus), which will be held on October 10 in Belarusian capital city Minsk.
