YEREVAN. – Armenian National Assembly (NA) Vice-Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, who is also co-chair of the Armenia-Belarus Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee, on Saturday received Belarus NA House of Representatives Vice-Speaker Viktor Guminsky, who likewise is co-chair of the aforesaid committee.

Sharmazanov praised bilateral relations noting that the parliamentary format is an important platform for the development of bilateral strategic relations.

Turning to regional security issues, the Armenia NA deputy chair underscored the pacific settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. Guminsky, for his part, noted that Belarus likewise supports a solely peaceful resolution of this conflict.

Sharmazanov invited the Belarusian parliamentarians to participate in the events devoted to the 100th anniversary of Armenian Genocide, and which will be held in April 2015 in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan. In turn, the Belarus House of Representatives deputy chair stressed that MPs must do everything so that such tragedies do not repeat in the future.

The interlocutors highlighted cooperation within international organizations, and conferred on several other matters of mutual interest.
