A pacific resolution of conflicts in this region is of primary importance for peace and prosperity. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement continues to have a vital importance for Armenia.

Armenia National Assembly (NA) Vice-Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov stated the aforesaid in his opening remarks at the 43rd Session of the Cultural, Educational and Social Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

“Azerbaijan’s recent numerous violations of the ceasefire on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and its acts of sabotage on the Nagorno-Karabakh Line of Contact suggest that they can become a real threat for regional security.

“Azerbaijan’s growing military expenditure and its authorities’ bellicose statements to forcibly resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh issue are objectionable, too,” Sharmazanov also noted.

In his words, Armenia seeks solely a peaceful settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and underscores the establishment of a climate of trust to constructively continue the peace talks brokered by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

“The recognition of the right to self-determination of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, and the exercising of this right must be at the basis of the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue,” the Armenian NA deputy chair added.
