YEREVAN. – The economic growth in Armenia for 2014 will be just 2.5 percent which, however, is a zero indicator.

Economist Bagrat Asatryan made such a prediction at a press conference on Wednesday.

“We [Armenia] have had an economic growth of 4.1 percent in the first eight months of this year, and the trade volumes have increased. But at what expense, when the other indicators are low?

“We have ensured a growth [in economy] because some businesses have come out of the shadows,” Asatryan stated.

In the economist’s words, however, Armenia has not recorded any growth in the banking system so far this year, whereas a 15-20-percent growth was achieved in the previous years.

“The Russian market, where, according to forecasts, there will be a large economic growth this year, has greatly impacted the economy of Armenia.

“According to some experts, the economic growth in the RF [Russian Federation] will be 0.6 percent by the end of the year, and this means that all this will affect us [Armenia], too,” Bagrat Asatryan added.
