YEREVAN. – The WTO countries are not yet concerned over changes related to customs duties in Armenia in the context of accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, Economy Minister Karen Chshmarityan told reporters.

“Any country can start negotiations after any country changes the customs duties. Once in three years WTO informs its members about the changes of customs duties in all countries,” Chshmarityan explained.

Armenia, he said, has not yet officially notified the WTO colleagues on new duties: it must be done after the Eurasian Union treaty comes into force on January 1, 2015. However, Minister said, the main trade partners of Armenia got familiar with the new duties ahead of time.

“If they have seen the damage to their own interests, they would have turned to us for WTO negotiations on compensatory increase of their duties. No country has yet addressed Armenia on the matter. Therefore, no one sees problems,” the Minister emphasized.
