YEREVAN. – Several dozens of capital city Yerevan residents, who have become the victims of eminent domain and who have assembled outside the Government of Armenia Building on Thursday, blocked the intersection nearby the building for a few minutes (photo).

The police, however, pushed them back to the sidewalk, but a protesting woman laid down on the street, and the police removed her likewise from the street, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informed from the location.

Subsequently, however, the protesting residents managed to break the police chain and close off the street yet again.

Afterward, Aleksandr Ghazaryan, Head of the Government Department of Petitions and Complaints, approached the protestors and attempted to negotiate with them.

The residents demanded a meeting with the Prime Minister, and recalled that they have not yet received the promised compensation for their former homes which were declared eminent domain, and therefore they are forced to live on rent for already several years.

Ghazaryan managed to convince some of them, and he accompanied them to the reception hall.

The other group, however, separated and attempted to enter the Government Building, but the police removed them from the building entrance.

At present, Yerevan Deputy Chief of Police Valeri Osipyan is negotiating with the protestors, and explaining that they will achieve nothing by violating public order.

There are a large number of police forces outside the Government Building.
