YEREVAN. – President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on Thursday met with the EU Special Representative on South Caucasus Herbert Salber.

During the meeting, President Sargsyan noted importance of EU's consistent assistance to Armenia's reforms.

The sides touched upon recent developments on Karabakh peace process in Sochi and Newport as well as escalation of tension at the line of contact between Karabakh and Azerbaijani armed forces and Armenia-Azerbaijan border this summer. President Sargsyan and EU official expressed confidence that OSCE Minsk Group format is the only way for a peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict.

Herbert Salber underscored EU's readiness to continue supporting the high level talks and the moves that can contribute to resolution of the conflict.

President added that recognition of Karabakh people's right to determine their fate would be progress in the process of settlement.

The sides exchanged views on the upcoming meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders organized on the initiative of French President Francois Hollande and scheduled for late October.
