YEREVAN. – Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan has arrived in Iran at the invitation of Eshaq Jahangiri, the First Vice President of Iran.

After the official welcoming ceremony at Tehran’s international airport, the Abrahamyan-led Armenian delegation headed for the Iranian royal palace, where Abrahamyan and Jahangiri held a private talk, informed the Press Office of the Government of Armenia.

The Armenian Premier expressed a conviction that his visit to Iran will contribute to the further strengthening of ties between the two nations.

“Armenian-Iranian relations are at a high level and they continue to develop. I am sure that Armenian-Iranian cooperation also contributes to the strengthening of regional peace and stability,” Abrahamyan specifically noted.

In turn, the First Vice President of Iran highly praised the present-day level of relations between the two countries. He noted, however, that economic relations lag behind the high-level political discourse between Armenia and Iran, but expressed confidence that PM Abrahamyan’s official visit to Iran will be a factor in the invigoration of economic cooperation.

Hovik Abrahamyan, for his part, stressed that there is great potential and everything possible must be done to liven up bilateral economic collaboration.

The Premier also informed that Armenia’s Eurasian Economic Union accession treaty will open new prospects for the development of the country’s economy, and opportunities for foreign investments.

The Abrahamyan-Jahangiri private talk was followed by an extended meeting, during which the prospects for cooperation were discussed and collaboration especially in several domains were underscored.

At the end of the talk, Hovik Abrahamyan invited Eshaq Jahangiri to Armenia on an official visit.
