YEREVAN. – The upcoming meeting of the presidents in Paris is to underline that there is no alternative to peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict, outgoing French Ambassador Henri Reynaud said.

Ambassador Reynaud recalled that the meeting will be held on the initiative of French President Francois Hollande and was voiced during latter's visit to Yerevan and Baku.

“The proposal was accepted, and the meeting will be held in the next few days in Paris. Without going into details, I will note that it is targeted at giving a new impetus to the negotiations on finding a solution to the Karabakh conflict. In addition, it is important that the parties can create an atmosphere of trust, which would help to change the situation at the line of contact between Azerbaijan and Karabakh as well as Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The summit will once again confirm the important fact that there is no alternative to peace negotiations,” Ambassador said during a press conference on Wednesday.

He reminded of the principles of the Helsinki Final Act: territorial integrity and the right of peoples to self-determination, non-use of force or the threat of its use, and also stressed the need to respect the ceasefire. With regard to the proposal of Karabakh President to the heads of OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing states to visit Nagorno-Karabakh, the Ambassador said he was not informed of this initiative.

Asked about obviously pro-Azerbaijani report prepared at PACE and possible shift in Europe's policy towards Armenia, Ambassador Reynaud said he has no information that would allow to claim that Europe will change its stance.

The ambassador stressed that the settlement continues exclusively in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group.

The Ambassador also said that after the completion of his mission in Yerevan will keep track of information about Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
