YEREVAN. – Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier urged to respect Armenia's decision (photos).

The Minister assured that Berlin respects Armenia's decision to join the Eurasian Economic Union.

“I think that Armenia does not consider it as an obstacle for development and deepening of ties with Europe,” he told reporters in Yerevan.

Speaking about relations with Armenia, German FM said he remembers his first trip to Yerevan with pleasure. Since then, relations and ties have been developing, he added.

The Minister pointed at close connection between Armenia and Germany, and emphasized that his country is one of the most important European partners of Armenia. The two countries are also working together on critical issues such as peacekeeping in Afghanistan and Kosovo.

German Foreign Minister stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation with partners in the framework of the Eastern Partnership.
