Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has claimed that his country is always taking steps, yet Armenia leaves them unanswered.

En route to the NATO summit, Cavusoglu responded to the questions from journalists on board the plane, reported Arca news agency of Turkey. He also commented on Pope Francis’ recent statement on the prospects for the reopening of the Armenian-Turkish border.

“The statement on the opening of the border is just a wish by the Pope. We [, Turkey,] also want for the border to open, and Turkey is always taking steps in the Armenian issue, but there is no response from Armenia. Our extended hand remains in the air,” the Turkish FM stated.

On his way back to the Vatican from his recent visit to Turkey, Pope Francis had stated: “If only the Armenian-Turkish border could open; this would be such a wonderful thing.”
