YEREVAN. – The diplomacy and foreign policy of Armenia are oriented towards the development of cooperation with all countries.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian stated the aforesaid at his joint news conference Friday with his visiting Latvian colleague, Edgars Rinkēvičs.

“But cooperation can be developed solely with those who are ready for it,” the FM said in response to a query on the Armenian side’s position with respect to the Turkish FM’s recent call. Turkey’s minister had stated that Armenia may be included in the regional projects only under certain conditions.

“Is it possible to collaborate with a side which refuses to establish diplomatic relations, keeps the borders with Armenia closed, conducts an aggressive policy of [Armenian] Genocide denial, and, in general, is rather inimical towards matters concerning Armenia and the Armenian nation?

“When Turkey becomes ready to face its own history, [and] implements the commitments it has assumed, then this matter can be discussed.

“The Turks need to hear not solely their own [statements], but also the statements made by the international community; and it says: ‘The ball is on the Turkish side.’

“When Turkey responds to the hand Armenia has extended, then it will be possible to develop cooperation,” Nalbandian specifically noted.
