In their attempts to repudiate the trilateral agreements reached at the Armenian-Azerbaijani-Russian presidential meetings in Saint Petersburg, the Azerbaijani leaders are misinforming their people of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process and agreements reached at the meeting. To achieve its goals, Azerbaijan is making futile attempts to rewrite its history, geography and even international laws, Tigran Balayan, Spokesman for the RA Foreign Office, stated, commenting on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev’s recent warlike statements.

"High-ranking Azeri officials’ statements are a follow-up to their provocation in Nagorno-Karabakh on the night of June 19. They are certainly aimed at torpedoing the negotiation process," Balayan said.

According to him, despite official Baku’s futile efforts, the “Prague process is not the Baku process, and the Madrid proposals are not Baku proposals. But aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh is Azerbaijan’s aggression. The Nagorno-Karabakh people’s right to self-determination cannot be restricted to Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity,” Balayan said.

"Without drawing lessons from history, the Azerbaijani leaders threaten with new provocations. Official Baku’s statements confirm the fact that before each important meeting the Azeri leaders take steps to torpedo the talks – this time a five-sided meeting to be held in Almaty in ten days. Truth, not lies and threats, is the basis of constructiveness," Balayan said.
