YEREVAN. – The Armenia-based Sports Shoes Factory of Yeghvard company is considering negotiating with Adidas, company Managing Director Misha Ulikhanyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his words, the company may commence talks with Adidas as of January 1, 2015, when Armenia is expected to join the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

He recalled, however, that the Yeghvard plant used to manufacture Adidas sport shoes in the past, too, and with authorization.

During the Soviet era, the Yeghvard plant was one of the enterprises where Adidas sport shoes were manufactured in accordance with the union patent which Adidas had issued. After the collapse of the USSR, however, this patent was canceled.

“We [, the Sports Shoes Factory of Yeghvard,] probably will apply for a new patent and become the first in the EEU to again manufacture this brand on a regular basis,” Ulikhanyan added.
