YEREVAN. – Azerbaijan is an important partner for the United States, outgoing Ambassador John Heffern said asked whether he would be an ambassador of U.S. in Baku.
The diplomat said Washington is closely working with Azerbaijan in a number of areas, for example on Afghanistan, the country is also critically important in terms of cooperation in energy sector, the supply of natural gas and oil to South Europe.
John Heffern added that Azerbaijan is important in terms of relations with Iran.
“So we are working with Azerbaijan, and I do not see a problem in being ambassador in Baku: it would be a challenge to understand their position on Karabakh,” he said.
