YEREVAN. – In 2014, the incumbent authorities of Armenia have completely failed in foreign policy and domestic politics, alike.

Opposition Democratic Motherland Party Chairman Petros Makeyan stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Wednesday, as he presented his views on the distinctiveness of the passing year.

“After the football diplomacy [between Armenia and Turkey], the [Armenian] Genocide recognition has met an impasse, and therefore this is a great gift for Turkey because [, now,] the large states of the world refrain from making assessments thinking that the matter will be resolved through negotiations.

“It’s also a failure in the case of the Artsakh [i.e., Nagorno-Karabakh] issue.

“Monopolies, daily increase in the prices, [and] complete absence of justice; and this [is] in the domestic political life,” Makeyan said, in particular.

He added that the makeup of Armenia’s political arena is a peculiarity of the passing year.

“The political framework, in the classical sense, is government and opposition. But this year, the RPA [i.e., ruling Republican Party] and the PAP [i.e., non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party] oligarchy began to compete [with one another]; but they have a condition that they will not devour each other. These sides have but one desire: coming to power,” the Democratic Motherland Party leader specifically concluded.
