YEREVAN. – The interests of Armenia and Turkey may coincide on the issue of Abkhazian railway next year, chairman of the union of automobile carriers Gagik Agadjanyan said.

He recalled that construction of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will be completed in 2015, and this will contribute to growing interest in the Abkhazian railway. The expert believes there will be a need for joining two routes so that Turkish goods could not stop in Georgia, but continue their way to Russia.

“The traffic jam on Turkey-Georgia border often stretches for 10 kilometers with Turkish goods being transported to Russia. These are mainly agricultural goods to flood the Russian market after western sanctions came into effect,” he said.

The Turkish companies want to transport their goods as cheap as possible, and the cheapest way in this case is railway, he added.
