YEREVAN. – The current stage of Armenia-Georgia relations can be described as promising, Shirak Torosyan RPA MP and Javakhk Union chairman told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He pointed at a number of high level visits during which it was noted that Armenia and Georgia are friendly states and must work in international arena and in the region.

“Since the countries chose different foreign policy course – the fact t hat some experts describe as an obstacle – the leadership of two countries believe that Armenia and Georgia should use advantage of economic component for the development of bilateral relations,” he added.

Torosyan recalled that Georgia ratified Association Agreement with EU and determined a roadmap to be consistent with EU demands. Under a new visa regime, the foreigners can stay in Georgia not over than 90 days and not over 180 days during the year.

“Many Armenians of Javakhk got the citizenship of Armenia to have an opportunity to travel to Russia as migrant workers, but Georgia does not recognize dual citizenship, and they are faced with the problem of losing Georgian citizenship. This was not an obstacle till the new visa regime came into effect on September 1, 2015. Now Armenians of Javakhk are forced to leave their homes as their visas have expired ,” Torosyan explained.

At the same time he expressed hope that the problem will be solved by mid March as a result of the visits of high ranking officials.
