The Russian rescue service on Saturday received a call informing that a group of fishermen were stranded on a chunk of ice that had broken off from the coast of Mordvinov Gulf, near Sakhalin Island.

The rescuers made attempts to bring the fishermen ashore by boats. Subsequently, a rescue helicopter was dispatched to the Mordvinov Gulf to rescue the amateur fishermen.

All fishermen were rescued at around 4։55pm local time (10։55am Armenia time), informed the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations press service.

“All 224 fishermen are brought ashore, their lives and health are not in danger, [and] there is also no need for medical assistance,” the statement specifically reads, Interfax news agency reported.
