YEREVAN. – The television channels that air Russian-language films are in violation of Armenia’s laws.

Opposition Armenian National Congress National Assembly Faction member Nikol Pashinyan stated at Thursday’s parliament deliberations on the 2014 report of the National Commission on Television and Radio.

He recalled that, pursuant to the working law in Armenia, the TV broadcast language in the country is Armenian, but solely the state-funded Public TV Company of Armenia (H1) fully adheres to this requirement.

Pashinyan noted that the TV airtime in the languages of the national minorities of Armenia can be in a limited duration.

In response, Commission Chairman Gagik Buniatyan stated that the film translations cost more than the licenses.

“Therefore translating all films is quite expensive and still unrealistic,” he added.
