The Azerbaijani media have attributed something to the OSCE Minsk Group US Co-Chair, James Warlick, which he has not said.
The American diplomat had tweeted: “These are days of remembrance. The deaths and tragic events of the past remain a source of pain. It’s time for reconciliation.”
The Azerbaijani media, however, had understood something completely different from this tweet.
As case in point, one Azerbaijani website, citing the co-chair, had written: “Yet another anniversary of the Khojaly events bespeaks the fact that the parties to the Karabakh conflict need to reconcile.”
The Azerbaijani propaganda attributes its own thoughts to the diplomats, who either tweet or make comments on Facebook to convey their thoughts to the conflicting parties.
But the Azerbaijanis’ misinformation undermines the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. And this problem is not solely in social networks.
