YEREVAN. – Non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Chairman Gagik Tsarukyan has made a statement at the PAP special congress Thursday in capital city Yerevan, and announced that he is leaving active politics.

“Today is the moment when I made the decision to no longer engage in active politics [and] lay down the powers of [PAP] party chairman and [PAP National Assembly (NA)] faction head; this is my personal decision.

“I have never pursued personal gain during the years of being in politics.

“I have attempted, with all possible political avenues, to find solutions, fight for solving the problems plaguing our nation. But I have always been against Maidans.

“I will continue to be useful to my country and people; [but now] this will be done in other areas, in other domains.

“I no longer have anything to do with the PAP; this is my final decision.

“There are numerous candidates who can honorably assume the position of the [Prosperous Armenia] Party Chairperson. [But] I propose that this work be entrusted to our colleague [, PAP NA Faction Secretary,] Naira Zohrabyan, given her popularity, dedication to the [PAP] team. The rest is up to you to decide. From now on everything is up to you to decide,” Tsarukyan’s statement specifically reads.
