YEREVAN. – The flare up of flu in Armenia is fading, Minister of Health Armen Muradyan said at a briefing on Thursday.

In his words, although the cases of the flu had reached up to 1,900 several days ago, they are down to 1,400 at present.

As per Muradyan, one can speak about an outbreak solely if the number of illnesses is five times higher than normal, whereas the number of cases of the flu in Armenia exceeded the norm by only 1.5 times.

The minister informed that 602 of the 1,900 flu patients were hospitalized, and 599 of the hospitalized were children.

In addition, seven kindergartens were closed throughout the country, and primarily in the areas where the cases of the flu had exceeded 25 percent of the local population.

“The epidemiological situation is stable,” Armen Muradyan added.
