Even though the debates with respect to the bill on criminalization of Armenian Genocide non-recognition, or denial, were on the Cypriot House of Representatives (parliament) agenda for Thursday, it was put off at the last minute until March 30.

It was found out that the Cypriot MPs had reservations on this matter, and some of them wanted the bill to be passed solely with the criminalization of the Genocide denial.

According to Turkish media, all political parties have jointly introduced this bill to the Cypriot parliament. The bill sets penalties for those who do not recognize the Armenian Genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. It is noted that the bill is proposed to be adopted in connection with the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

Cyprus has formally recognized the Armenian Genocide.
