YEREVAN. – The assembly of chairmen of the European sections at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie started its work in the Armenian parliament on Tuesday.

In his speech, Armenian parliament speaker Galust Sahakyan said it is time to increase the level of relations uniting Armenia and Francophonie to reach the level of parliamentary format.

He said that the current Assembly is held on the eve of an important event for the Armenians – centennial anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

“Today, 100 years after the Armenian Genocide, commemoration of victims and condemnation is a priority, since the mankind, unfortunately, still faces the danger of a possible genocide. The next stage of the crime of Genocide is to neglect the victims and deny crimes, especially at the state level, and especially by the state that has perpetrated the genocide,” Sahakyan said.

He added that instead of making any moves in the direction of acknowledgment of the Armenian Genocide, Turkey is distorting historical facts at the state level.
