The Russian Dalniy Vostok (Far East) freezer trawler has sunk in the Sea of Okhotsk, off the Kamchatka peninsula, with 53 sailors confirmed dead, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.

As per the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Affairs for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters, another 53 people were rescued. 

In turn, TASS news agency of Russia reported that the death toll is 43, another 63 were rescued, and the search is continuing for the remaining 26 crew members.

To note, the trawler had 132 people, including 54 foreign nationals—from Myanmar, Ukraine, Lithuania, and Vanuatu—, on board when it sank.
