The case, which was brought against Russian Armenian businessman Levon Hayrapetyan, has been separated from the case against the Bashneft Russian oil company, and now, solely one charge has remained against him, Hayrapetyan’s attorney told reporters, informed RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.

“Only the part about misappropriation of funds (…) is left in our [court] case,” the attorney explained during the trial in a Moscow court.

As a result, the charges brought against Hayrapetyan are mitigated.

Levon Hayrapetyan was detained in a Moscow airport on July 15, 2014, and subsequently arrested. On July 24 of the same year, the Russian Federation Investigation Committee brought two criminal charges against him: embezzlement or misuse, and money laundering. On September 12, 2014, the Russian Armenian businessman was charged with fraud, too. On October 3 of the same year, however, a Moscow district court ruled in favor of releasing Hayrapetyan from prison and placing him under house arrest. Even though Levon Hayrapetyan has health problems, he was kept in prison for a long time. On December 10, 2014, Hayrapetyan’s pre-trial detention period was extended for four more months, until April 15 of the current year.
