“The ruthless 1915 Genocide against the Christian population – Armenians, Assyrians, Syrians and Pontian Greeks - in the former Ottoman Empire, usually referred to as Sayfo, was nothing but a genocide. Adolf Hitler was aware of this too. However, the Swedish FM Margot Wallstrom still denies this”, Swedish Riksdag MP Robert Hannah, Assyrian by descent, states in a query to be read out on 30 April 2015, the Swedish Parliament website reports.

In a written response to the query on her opinion about the 100th anniversary of the Genocide, the Swedish FM again used the phrases “these events” and “tragic events” with regard to the Genocide, although the leader of Sweden’s social democrats Stefan Lofven, who won the parliamentary elections in 2014, pledged to acknowledge the Genocide.

“Parallels with the Holocaust in Nazi Germany are obvious. Referring to the Holocaust as “these events” or “tragic events” is to be unapologetically reconciliatory.  However, FM Margot Wallstrom supports Turkey and its denial policy, although according to the criteria of the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS), the denial of Genocide leads to its repetition”, Robert Hannah said.

“Why is the State Minister breaking his March 2014 promise to recognize the Armenian Genocide? What sources does the Minister use to research  the question? When are they going to acknowledge the results of the research?” the MP said in the query.
