Parliament of the Basque Country has joined the European Parliament resolution calling on Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide of 1915. The announcement was made at the plenary session of the Basque Parliament on April 16.

“April 24, 2015 will mark the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman Empire. The Government of Turkey, despite repeated calls from the international community, has not yet been officially recognized this historic crime.

We believe the need for transparency and genuine dialogue between the authorities of Turkey and Armenia in order to build a common future, which will allow to finally close this tragic chapter of history,” the Parliament said in a statement.

The lawmakers said they are joining the activities that will take place on April 24 in Yerevan, and expressed solidarity and respect for the families of the victims that are still suffering the consequences of the Genocide.
