The head of the Political Affairs Bureau and the Armenian Cause Office of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party, Giro Manoyan, is of the view that if US President Barack Obama does not use the term “genocide”—to describe the tragedy that befell the Armenians 100 years ago—before May 9, he needs to be told that the Armenians no longer want any respective statement from him.

Manoyan stressed, at a press conference on Monday, that Obama should realize that he may find himself in a ridiculous situation.

“The US President must come to understand that once the president of Turkey itself said “genocide” and he [i.e. the US President] repeated [it] on the next day, he will be in a ridiculous situation.

“Events devoted to the Armenian Genocide Centennial are expected [to be held] in the US from May 7 to 9,” the ARF official stated, and added: “[And] if Obama did not say the word ‘genocide’ before that, we [i.e. the Armenians] shall tell him that we don’t [any longer] want him to say that word.”

Nonetheless, Giro Manoyan did not rule out the possibility that Barack Obama might actually say “genocide” during his annual April 24 statement for this year.
